Challenges:
- Maintaining intellectual sharpness and growth while living in the ex-pat culture of Saudi Arabia.
- Business: the tradition of females not working in male-dominated industries.
- Business Studies: travel/transportation for any and all needs outside the compound lived on.
- Travel: travelling alone as a female in the Arab culture.
Resolution:
- Due to my recruitment of senior managers who had been my North American clients, this allowed me to provide technical analysis and support.
- Business: due to the tradition of women not visibly working in industy, I provided onsite technical support to the paper mill at night.
- Travel: obtained stamped Saudi Arabian-issued stamped documents that allowed me to travel with a driver who was not my husband, stay in hotels and fly or train travel alone.
- Adhered to local customs via dress and mannerisms.
