Nature of Business:

Overview of Pilot Plant and understanding of Shinhama Pump Mfg. Co.,Ltd equipment as utilized in the pulping process. Invitation to visit arranged by Atlantic Packaging Co. who were contemplating purchasing their Shinhama equipment.

Challenges:

• Communicating in Japanese.
• Conveying my position in the North American Market as an influencer becasue the local upper management thought that I was a buyer.

Resolution:

• English translators and a blackboard resolved the language and operational knowledge issue.
• Ensured an understanding that my role was advisor on equipment purchase, as chemical suppliers have consultancy influence over the operation of equipment.
